Are beards back in fashion?

Christopher

Thinking about growing a beard?  Here is the first thing that you should know about making that decision: forget about whether beards are in fashion or not.  Grow a beard because you want to grow a beard, not to follow a trend.  If beards seem to be “in fashion”, that’s great.  The more popular beards are, the better.  Nevertheless, whether they are popular or not, grow your beard because it is what you want to do.  That decision should never be dictated by the whims of fashion.

  1. Agreed. Growing a beard for fashion reasons is missing the point. Like growing a beard for a girl (or worse SHAVING a beard for a girl!). Grow it for yourself. The beard is a representation of you, in a prominent place: Your Face! Own it, and be proud of it. My beard and I have been together for several years now, and I couldn’t imagine being without.

  2. My beard comes and goes. It goes when I’m bored and I’m left alone with the clippers. Or when I’m trying a new style. And it comes when I’m being lazy and don’t want to shave. Also, I don’t like my chin. So I hide it with beard.

I never leave it to the whims of fashion. This would be a mistake.

  3. Even if beards are in fashion now, the media is referring to the stubble/trim beard, as opposed to thicker looking beards.

It’s the same thing with long hair on men. Their definition of long hair, is emo/shaggy. Ugh.

  4. If you want to grow a beard, whatever the style, and are able to grow the beard you want, then do it–it’s not about others, it’s about you. Only two operative words-want and able. Both must be there to have a beard that is satisfying to you and generally good looking to others, but it’s just my opinion.

  5. The nicest and silkiest beards are those when growing as a teenager – I let mine grow in naturally from 18 to 21 years and never trimmed of shaved it – as a student – it was mostly frowned upon and looked down on – but I loved it.
Five to six inches of natural hair – i have always regretted cutting it in the name of conformity.

  6. It’s very refreshing to find a site like this!!! I love the statement that ‘Nevertheless, whether they are popular or not, grow your beard because it is what you want to do. That decision should never be dictated by the whims of fashion.” EXCELLENT!!! We need more beard-minded men in the world!!! The beard is a natural adornment of men that clearly denotes his masculinity and distinguishes him from women. Fashion or not, why would a man want to resemble a woman by ‘clean-shaving’ his beard. Beard is natural, embrace it! It’s part of who we are as men.
